David’s interest in gardening began at the young age of three ‘helping’ his grandmother in her beautiful garden. She would dig up plants for him to take home and plant with his mother.

An early memory is of bringing a Lady’s Mantel from his granny’s garden and having the big task of getting it planted in his own garden!

As a teenager David spent every Easter and summer school holiday staying with family friends in Northern Ireland. They had a landscaping, garden centre, and wholesale nursery business and it was here David’s interest in horticulture really developed. Here he also gained invaluable knowledge about landscaping, garden centre retailing and the propagation, growing & displaying of plants.

David was awarded Best Plants Person of the Year by the Alpine Garden Society, Ulster Branch, in 2003 and was among the top eight All-Ireland horticultural students of the year.

Since then as well as landscaping and garden maintenance he has managed a garden centre for over 14 years, developed a nursery for growing and supplying plants and has been involved in numerous horticulture related projects including:

• Providing colourful displays of plants and flower pots at Donegal Castle for the visit of HRH Prince of Wales for Tourism Ireland in 2016.
• Interviews and gardening advice on local radio, written articles for newspapers and has been on a Q&A panel with Irish celebrity gardener Dermott O’Neill.
• Organisation of wild bird care event with guest speaker Niall Hatch from Bird Watch Ireland.
• Guest speaker for various community and gardening groups.
• Producing displays of hanging baskets and pots for towns and villages.
